last week i ran 18.5 miles, and made a pie-thing with potatos and blue cheese
knees doing fine
one of my roommates moved away so we had a party. look, photos of my house and my housemates and my friends for once!
look aunt sharon this is your guitar! there were two real guitarists at the party who both thought it was excellent

because it’s like being
in a John Steinbeck novel.
Next best thing is the laundromat.
That’s where all people
who would be on the bus if they had the money
hang out. This is my crowd.
Tonight there are cleaning people appalled
at the stupidity of anyone
who would put powder detergent
in the clearly marked LIQUID ONLY slot.
The couple by the vending machine
are fondling each other.
You’d think the orange walls
and florescent lights
would dampen that energy
but it doesn’t seem to.
It’s a singles scene here on Saturday nights.
I confide to the fellow next to me
that I suspect I’m being taken
in by the triple loader,
maybe it doesn’t hold any more
than the regular machines
but I’m paying an extra fifty cents.
I tell him this meaningfully
holding handfuls of underwear.
He claims the triple loader
gives a better wash.
I don’t ask why,
just cruise over to the pop machine,
aware that my selection
may provide a subtle clue.
I shoes Wild Berry,
head back to my clothes.
running status: last week 12 miles
this week: 9.5 miles so far
i start to get mild stiffness/pain in my knee after about 4 miles (leftover from karate injury). but i count it as progress because it used to start hurting after only 1.5 miles, and then it would hurt for a couple days. now it never hurts the day after.
went to monterey with my former colleague and then to carmel and point lobos. and then stopped in san francisco on the way home for dinner! very nice day, surprisingly hot

let us sum up…
since i last appeared i have been sick for 2.5 weeks, been to new york for an experiment, been to lake tahoe for a bachelorette ski(sledding) weekend, hosted my dad for a weekend and went with him to the all-california sacred harp singing, read ‘the scarlet pimpernel’ and half of ‘middlemarch’, ran ~25 miles, worked for days and days on another experiment here in livermore which is a PAIN IN THE NECK, wrote a draft of a paper, made a huge mess of my room and did no laundry (well, until yesterday), and pretty much subsisted on handfulls of cold cereal. i wonder why i kept not getting better from being sick??????
‘the scarlet pimpernel’ was like the 1903 version of twilight i think.
